What Rehabbing Houses Taught Me About Vulnerability

What Rehabbing Houses Taught Me About Vulnerability

When I started selling homes as a real estate agent, I noticed a strange trend with the buyers I was showing houses to: People were willing to pay more for houses that looked pretty but lacked the important and expensive upgrades that were hidden behind the walls, such as good insulation, electrical system, and plumbing. Buyers had the ability to convince themselves to buy what looked pretty on the inside and neglect what’s on the inside or tell themselves that they will take care of those things later.

The Emasculation of Men In Our Society

The Emasculation of Men In Our Society

What do many television shows, movies (mostly comedies), and reality TV have in common? Almost all of them have a male lead role portrayed as childish, stupid, and horny. After my latest blog post on “5 Reasons Why Christian Men Are Not Pursuing Women”, several men expressed some of the struggles they face and shared how they felt which has lead me to follow up with this post. The more I speak to men, the more I see how this frustration is an issue that many of them share in common:

5 Reasons Why Christian Men Are Not Pursuing Women

5 Reasons Why Christian Men Are Not Pursuing Women

Given my experience with starting small groups and leading in a young adults ministry, the hottest topic of discussion and one of the biggest questions I have been asked is, “Why are single men in the church not pursuing?” There are two advantages that helped me shed a light on the topic. The first one is that; I myself, am a single Christian male and writing this required some vulnerability. Secondly, I have had hundreds of conversations with guys and girls in the church on the topic. Though there may be hundreds of reasons, I believe these are the 5 most common ones:

Jesus, Republicans, And The Death Penalty

Jesus, Republicans, And The Death Penalty

Lately, I have been stuck on a story in the Bible. Though I have known the story since I was a kid, something about it has recently made me feel unsettled. It’s the story of the woman who was caught in adultery. According to the law that was given directly by God, she deserved the death penalty (Leviticus 20:10). However, we see Jesus boldly standing against the judges in defense of the woman and fighting for her life. Was Jesus contradicting the law that He himself wrote? Is Jesus pro the death penalty? Are Christians supporting the death penalty following the footsteps of the pharisees who wanted her dead?

Lessons Christians Can Learn From Justin Bieber

Lessons Christians Can Learn From Justin Bieber

It was Justin Bieber’s 18th birthday when I was visiting a friend in Los Angeles. That friend happened to be someone that was working very closely with Bieber. I dropped my friend off to a hotel where Bieber was having his birthday party and I was told that the place was unannounced and not to tell anyone. I sat with another friend at the hotel’s bar and we chatted and prayed for Bieber for couple of hours until our friend came down and we drove him back. I wondered, “Is it possible for someone to be willing to give up so much money, fame, and power for the sake of following Jesus? Would I be willing if I am in Bieber’s shoes?” I kept thinking about the story of the rich young man that met Jesus (Matthew 19). The recent events with Bieber have proven that it is possible and that there are lessons every Christian can learn from him.

5 Ways To Do Something About The Paris Terror

5 Ways To Do Something About The Paris Terror

The world watched in horror at the news of the series of terrorists attacks that killed more than 130 people in Paris. Like so many, I felt anger and confusion. Earlier this year, I had a chance to raise funds for the families of the 21 Christians Egyptians who were killed by ISIS. I was able to go to Egypt and meet the victims and deliver the funds. However, with the recent Paris Attacks, I wasn’t sure how I can actually make a difference. Compared to those in Egypt, money may not be a desperate need for those who lost their loved ones in Paris. While it is impossible to rewind the past, here are 5 practical ways you can take to help with the current situation and help us to potentially prevent future ones:

How I Met The Families Of The Beheaded Christians & What I learned

How I Met The Families Of The Beheaded Christians & What I learned

I just came back from Egypt. I had the chance to personally meet with the families of the 21 men that were beheaded by ISIS for their Christian faith. We met at a local church instead of their homes for safety reasons. It is difficult to put in words how glorious and eye-opening the experience was and I think it will take me weeks if not months to capture it all but here is how it happened and what I learned from it.
